Template:Sfn Guy Edwards, the first, was dismissed as the band were unhappy with the "muddy" quality in his production, Template:Sfn while Andy Scott was sacked after insisting that Harris use a pick rather than his fingers. Template:Sfn After these efforts, the band decided not to sack Malone as Steve Harris describes that they could "bypass him and [go] to the engineer. This was also the only studio album with guitarist Dennis Strattonwho, having been brought in as a last-minute placement, was sacked due to "musical differences" after the band's European tour in support of Kiss.

Template:Sfn Suspicions were first raised during Iron Maiden' s recording, when Stratton added Wishbone Ash -esque harmony guitars and backing vocals reminiscent of Queen to "Phantom of the Opera", of which the rest of the band immediately disapproved and had removed. Template:Sfn Although Stratton states that he was not "trying to push the band in a new direction," Template:Sfn Harris comments that it "really pointed up the difference between Den and us," Template:Sfn after which he began to notice that "Dennis was so much more into playing stuff like "Strange World" than he was "Iron Maiden" or "Prowler", because it was more slow, melodic The remastered album differs from the original with the addition of the song "Sanctuary", which had then only been released as a single in the UK in MayTemplate:Sfn although it did also appear in the later US version of Iron Maidenwhich was issued in August Template:Sfn The re-release also features a different cover; a digital recreation by original artist Derek Riggswith a portion of the original artwork instead being used on the disc itself.

The band undertook the Iron Maiden Tour in support of the album, during which they played their first ever concerts in mainland Europe, Template:Sfn where they were surprised to discover how successful Iron Maiden had been outside the UK, with Steve Harris commenting, "The prestige of doing so well in the UK had turned into a sort of word-of-mouth thing, and we'd turn up in places like Leiden, in Holland, places we'd never even heard of, and they'd have these massive banners waiting for us with "Iron Maiden Go Over The Top" written on them and all this.

It was unreal. The band also performed the song on the UK TV show Top of the Popsrefusing the usual tradition for artists to mime and thus becoming the first group to perform live on the show since The Who in Template:Sfn Vocalist Paul Di'Annowho wrote the song's lyrics, describes it as "a very autobiographical song, though of course I've never spent the night in an LA jail. It's about being 16 and, like it says, just running wild and running free.

It comes from my days as a skinhead. Although "Strange World" is credited solely to Harris, Paul Daythe band's original vocalist fromclaimed that he also contributed to the song. Of all the album's songs, "Phantom of the Opera", "Running Free", "Sanctuary" and "Iron Maiden" are the most frequently played in the band's concert tours, with the last being played at every show since the band's inception and signalling the arrival of Eddie onstage.

Template:Sfn All of the record's songs, excluding "Strange World", have been recorded with Bruce Dickinson on vocals, either on live albums, studio B-Sides or both.

The band undertook two major tours before recording 's Powerslave, which would go on to be another cult hit and featured the minute epic "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," which was inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem.

The product of Powerslave's month tour was 's Live After Death, a double-live album featuring their biggest hit singles. Now established as a powerful and unique metal band, Iron Maiden experimented on their long-awaited album Somewhere in Time, incorporating synthesized bass and guitar and futuristic themes. They continued to expand their sound and subject matter Running Free - Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (CD 's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Another concept album featuring the singles "The Evil That Men Do" and "The Clairvoyant," as well as the group's first use of keyboards, it was Maiden's most critically acclaimed record since The Number of the Beast.

After that album's release, Smith and Dickinson worked on their own projects: Smith's album Running Free - Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (CD his band ASAP arrived inwhile Dickinson's solo album, Tattooed Millionaire, appeared the following year.

When Iron Maiden reconvened to work on a new album, Smith left over creative differences; ex-Gillan guitarist Janick Gers, who played on Tattooed Millionaire, joined the fold for 's No Prayer for the Dying.

A return to the band's stripped-down sound of the early '80s, it gave Iron Maiden their first number one U. To the Slaughter. However, he recorded another album, 's Fear of the Dark, and toured with the band, ultimately leaving in That year, two live albums were released: A Real Live One, which focused on their contemporaneous hit singles, and A Real Dead One, which featured Maiden's classic songs. Iron Maiden took some time off after Dickinson's departure, returning with 's The X Factor, which featured new singer and ex-Wolfsbane member Blaze Bayley.

While the record didn't perform as well commercially as some of its predecessors, it was still a success in England. Its follow-up, 's Virtual XI, was one of the band's lowest-selling albums; in addition, Bayley was having issues with his voice, and he left Iron Maiden early in Soon after, Dickinson Running Free - Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (CD Smith returned to the group, who released the ambitious, Kevin Shirley-produced Brave New World the following year.

Hi-Res Video. Instead, the band has continued to add new material to their arsenal, fleshing out the nooks and crannies of past glories with expansive, prog-minded efforts like The Final Frontier and Book of Souls Clocking in at just over 80 minutes, the epic Senjutsu is another distended late-career triumph, albeit one that requires multiple spins to set up camp in your Homeric metal-craving cranium. Commencing with one of the band's best openers in years, the potent "Senjutsu," treats the prosaic cruelties of war with equal parts melancholy and might.

Apart from the nimble "Stratego," which bears the instantly familiar galloping gait of classic Maiden, the ten-song set leans hard into the band's progressive tendencies. Despite an overarching preference for midtempo pieces, Senjutsu never lumbers. The serpentine arrangements and sonic detours into everything from Spaghetti Western-inspired groove metal "The Writing on the Wall" and maximalist, major key art-rock "The Time Machine" to lilting folk-metal "Death of the Celts" show a flair for innovation that artists who've been in the game so long rarely aspire to.

The band is tight, the energy level high and the mixing of the instruments is very well done as Album). Perhaps my only complaint could be that the songs are so faithful to the album versions that only the audience sounds differentiates them for the most part but this was still a band in its humble beginnings. If you are into the Di'Anno years then this is an excellent testimony to their live shows of the day. I only wish this was a full album instead of just a sampler.

Perhaps the strains in the band meant there wasn't enough material to warrant such and that this is the cream of what was available. I have been a big fan of this short but sweet EP for some time and can only hope there is some archival tracks out there ready to be added as bonus tracks so that this can have a much deserved re-release. As for the EP itself, the band delivers a terrific performance, as usual, with specially energetic versions of Killers and Innocent Exile.

It seems his drinking and drug habits were beginning to take their toll. Small wonder he was fired after this tour. But it is still Iron Maiden, and Running Free - Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (CD their singer was not sounding as good as he was in the studio, the sheer power of all band members and the high quality of the songs made this EP worth buying it at the time.
