Most of the TV I write about is placed firmly after the sexual revolution and yet displays an ambivalent attitude similar to that displayed to science. Sex is both the fascinating lovely thing that we are now free to obsess about, but is also something that is in danger of engulfing society. I can only think that the contemporary concern about the perceived negative effect of the Sex And Violence of sex in the media is largely absent from the TV of the time, is that the argument was completely polarised and there is always a tendency to egg on the opposition by pushing things as far as you can.
It is significant from an empirical point of view that what the moral crusaders largely have to support their arguments are their own opinions only. The mocked-up porn film made in a hotel near Heathrow is absolutely hilarious, to my mind, and this is also the reaction of the pop star on the committee. This is the heart of the issue that you could see that either as filthy or hilarious.
In fact it is one of the best bits of this episode, because to my eyes it gives exactly the right impression of what would now be considered the very soft porn of the past. Sam returns with news of the murder Sex And Violence by Lenny Bristol. Bobby calls and informs Sex And Violence boys that the "spell" the men are under is some kind of venom, and that the only way to kill the Siren is with a bronze dagger dipped in blood from one of its victims, so she is poisoned with her own venom.
The difficulty is finding someone currently under her spell. Sam and Dean visit Dr. Cara Roberts with the intention of obtaining a blood sample taken from one of the men while Sex And Violence was still under the Siren's spell.
They tell him to call their supervisor, Mike Kayser, who is actually Bobby, answering a specially labeled phone in his kitchen.
Satisfied, Monroe reveals he has also found the link between the men and the strippers. Sam suggests Dean go with him to keep him busy, while Sam gets the blood sample. As they leave Nick admires the Impala and at the club he and Dean bond over drinks and classic rock. Nick reveals to Dean that he has found a flower, a hyacinth, at the scene of each crime. A flower Dean remembers seeing in Dr Robert's office.
Back at the hospital, Sam and Cara find the blood samples missing, and there are no clues on the security tapes as to the thief. Sam reveals Sex And Violence version of their theory to her, that the men were drugged. He and Cara share a drink and talk about relationships.
Cara comes onto Sam, and he responds enthusiastically, even ignoring a call from Dean, and they have sex in her office. Later Sam calls Dean, who reveals his theory about the hyacinths, and that he has learned that Cara's ex-husband died of a heart attack. Dean accuses Cara of being the Siren but Sam doesn't believe it. Dean guesses that Sam has slept with Cara, and takes him to task over it. He tells Sam he can't trust him, and that he'll handle the investigation on his own.
Sam throws the phone away. Dean leaves a message for Bobby and then calls Nick for assistance. Dean and Nick watch Cara arrive at a club. Register Don't have an account? The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence. History Talk Mount Rushmore.
